Water Escaping From A Salt Water Strainer On A Volvo Penta D6

A customer in Brightlingsea reported that his Volvo Penta D6 330hp engine was overheating when it hit 1800rpm and this caused the Sportmaster fishing vessel to levitate out of the water.

We sent our very own Mulder to investigate this peculiar phenomena.

Simon intrigued at the levitation asked the customer to run the vessel so he could experience the issue first hand. It was discovered that the plastic elbow between the hose and drive had split and the water was escaping from the salt water strainer. A poorly installed upper clip had collided with the elbow and caused the damage.
